No Smarter Siri at WWDC 25

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC 25 has come and gone, and while there were plenty of announcements for new software and features, the highly anticipated AI powered, more personalized Siri was notably absent. This marks another delay for the virtual assistant's promised upgrades.

During the keynote, Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi addressed the topic, stating that the company is "continuing our work to deliver the features that make Siri even more personal." He added that this work "needed more time to reach our high quality bar," indicating that users will have to wait longer for the promised advancements. Federighi's comments suggest that a significantly enhanced Siri will not be available in the initial developer betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26.

Apple had initially previewed a more personalized Siri during WWDC 24, with expectations that these enhancements would arrive with iOS 18.4 earlier this year. However, the company confirmed delays in March. When these upgrades do eventually launch, they are expected to include a deeper understanding of user context, on screen awareness, and more extensive app controls. For instance, Apple had previously demonstrated Siri responding to queries about a user's mother's flight and lunch reservations by pulling information from Mail and Messages apps.

The delayed Siri improvements will require an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, the company's suite of new AI features. While Apple showcased other AI advancements at WWDC 25, the continued waiting game for a truly smarter Siri leaves some users and analysts questioning Apple's pace in the competitive AI landscape.
